Do social networks help or hurt romance?

With Valentine's Day around the corner, I'm wondering what's new out there in social networks when it comes to finding love.

Unless you've hibernated through the past decade, you know tons of people are using social networks to find dates and mates. According to a recent Forbes.com story, the biggest dating site, Match.com, has more than 15 million members. Online dating's even growing on mobile phones, with global revenues from that market expected to grow to nearly $1.4 billion by 2013.

What do you think? How are social networks and dating sites changing the way people handle dating and romance? Is it all for the better or the worse?

E-mail me your thoughts, or just reply to this post in the comments section. Maybe your thought or idea will give me a new twist on the traditional Valentine's Day story.

As much as people will try to defend and justify that online romance can happen, seriously it's mostly used for booty calls. Meet people in real life if you want to find a soul mate. Takes a lot more work, but it's worth it.

The union of a man and a woman is a mystery and, therefore, indiscernible. Men and women should be looking for dates and mates within their own workplace (as and if appropriate), church and other places of worship, neighborhoods.

I for one think that social network dating sites are for the worst. I will not call out the site but they are very suspectible for SCAMS and also many people claim to be decent people. What I mean by that is that they are "hunting grounds" for people who intend to harm females. Remember the young black female that was killed in South Carolina this past year? She went there to break up with a amn she met on line...........A NUT CASE, then match.com is NOTORIOUS for scams!!! Eharmony discriminates against gays. Let's not forget Craigslist......even a so-called husband arranged for is wife to be raped on, by advertising for a rendevous on their site. What is the world coming to? I will stick to meeting someone face to face and taking my chances there. At least you know that the person, might possibily be telling the truth. IF all else fails do as background check on the person.
